Division Overview:
The Legal Services Division of the Montana Department of Justice is dedicated to ensuring justice and upholding the rule of law on behalf of the people of Montana.
The Legal Services Division functions as lawyers and legal support for the State of Montana. The division is comprised of five (5) bureaus: Agency Legal Services Bureau, Appellate Services Bureau, Prosecution Services Bureau, Civil Services Bureau, Office of Consumer Protection & Victims Services. The bureaus within Legal Services have diverse duties in the legal community, including the defense of Montana’s laws as passed by Legislature and voters, representing state agencies and boards, bringing criminals to justice, standing up for victims of crime, and protecting consumers. The employees of the Legal Services Division are committed to working hard, working smart, and working thoughtfully in the execution of the Division’s mission.
Job Overview
The Legal Secretary is responsible for a variety of legal and administrative support services as provided to attorneys in the unit. Duties include tracking case materials, milestones, deadlines, and important dates; preparing legal documents; providing support to trial preparation activities; conducting research in response to various requests; formatting, processing, tracking and otherwise monitoring new or modified administrative rules for the Agency; and providing a variety of general administrative support services to the office. The position reports directly to the supervisor and does not supervise others.
The first review of candidates will be held on July 2, 2021.
Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Two years of experience performing a variety of office support or clerical work
- Other combinations of education and experience may be substituted.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years working in a legal office
