
An outbreak of at least 85 COVID-19 cases has been linked to a summer camp in central Illinois, according to state health officials. At the summer camp, which was held in mid-June, the state health department said it was aware of “only a handful” of campers and staff who received COVID-19 vaccines.

Two mass shootings rocked Chicago over the weekend, at a time when the city continues to struggle with violence. From Friday afternoon through early Monday, at least 77 people were shot across Chicago, seven of them fatally, according to Tribune data.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot said yesterday she will move forward with plans to direct $40 million toward developing a park named for Jean Baptiste Point DuSable and hold yearly programming in his honor, even after aldermen voted to rename Lake Shore Drive for the Haitian explorer known as Chicago’s founder.

A spokeswoman for the Chicago Police Department confirmed Monday that Officer Evan Solano had been stripped of his police powers pending an investigation by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability. Solano has been identified as the officer who shot 22-year-old Alvarez, who was carrying a gun during a foot chase.
