This book of readings takes a look at America’s over-reliance on penalty and retribution as the ways of responding to prevalent social issues and analyzes the justice system’s propensity to incarcerate – rather than reward – minority, mentally-ill, bad, and drug-dependent wrongdoers. The authors argue for a corrective model of correction that is more humane to both offenders and victims. This design opens up dialogue between transgressors and their victims, households, and neighborhoods by promoting hallmark programs, consisting of victim culprit mediation, conferencing, peacemaking circles, restitution, and community tasks and services.
