This book provides new insights into cops cooperation from a comparative socio-legal perspective. It presents a broad analysis of comparable cops cooperation methods in 2 systems: the EU and Australia. The development of regulative patterns and cooperation models is analysed for both systems and possible transferable strategies recognized. Making use of interviews with practitioners in the EU and Australia this book highlights a variety of areas where the EU can be compared to a federal system and addresses the advantages and downsides of being a Union or a federation of states with a view to cops cooperation practice. Specific topics resolved are the advancement of legal frameworks managing police cooperation, informal cooperation methods, Joint Investigation Teams, Europol and local cooperation. These instruments foster police cooperation, but might be enhanced with a view to cooperation practice by learning from regulatory strategies and specialist experiences of the particular other system.
