POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This is an extremely accountable position in the criminal justice system. The staff member is expected to carry out all the duties in the optimum accountable manner, demonstrate leadership by being a positive role model for staff, youth and the community, and treat all individuals with self-respect and regard.

Accountable for adhering to firm or center policies and treatments. Accountable for maintaining a safe and safe and secure environment for youth, themselves and other staff. Guarantees the maintenance of an environment which is safe and creates an environment that has “no tolerance” for detained youth leaves, apprehended youth abuse, unwanted sexual advances and unsuitable conduct by the personnel with the detained youth (Red Flag Habits). Assists in the operation of a safe detention center, assuring the safe and secure custody of all designated apprehended youth while making sure that all apprehended youth are supplied their humans rights with special issue for legal, medical and mental health concerns.

Assists the manager to guarantee that the apprehended youth’s services and programs remain in compliance with court orders, guidelines, Department policies and procedures, and Quality Assurance requirements.

Effectively finishes training requirements to preserve proficiency on the proper methods for dispensing medications to the youth. Distributes medication in the lack of a designated medical health authority or a facility nurse.

Performs tasks in Master Control, admissions, releases, and transportation, as required.

Monitors youth in all activities and preserves control of detained youth by offering regulations, therapy and/or using suitable levels of spoken or physical usage of Protective Action Reaction (PAR) as needed to properly control apprehended youth in accordance with the departmental and center policies and treatments.

Examines facility, youth, visitors and plans delivered to the center for contraband.

Trains and/or coach’s workers concerning their tasks and orients them worrying facility policies and procedures.

In the absence of the manager, presumes acting manager’s function.

Composes reports and prepares needed records relating to occurrences, apprehended youth movement and notable info, and ensures the documents of all offenses of facility operating procedures, rules and guidelines, and state and federal statutes. Prepares apprehended youth for court looks, and transportations and escorts detained youth to medical, criminal justice, social services and judicial facilities as required according to departmental and facility policies and treatments.

Utilizes security and emergency equipment to make sure the security and security of the detained youth and the facility.

Finishes 10- minute checks, 5-minute checks or Consistent Sight and Uninterrupted Sound Guidance for every single apprehended youth restricted to room confinement or designated as self-destructive.

Evaluates and evaluates details available through the Juvenile Justice Information System.

Initiates and keeps detained youth counts as directed by departmental and center operating treatments and policies.

Participates in and effectively finishes all training needed by DJJ’s Direct Care Training Policy and other training as assigned and required. In case of an emergency situation, will use Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), and Emergency treatment strategies and treatments taught during certification training.

Participates in needed conferences.

Maintains a legitimate Driver License and reports any change to his/her manager within 72 hours. Will not intentionally drive a state lorry or utilize a personal car on state service if his/her license is revoked, suspended, or given any curtailment of use.

This position should abide by the requirements stated in Section 215.422, Florida Statutes, Trigger Payment Compliance Law.

Carries out other associated tasks as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL UNDERSTANDING, ABILITIES AND ABILITIES:

Capability to communicate both orally and in writing.

Capability to add, deduct, multiply and divide reasonable numbers.

Capability to prepare and maintain reports and records.

Ability to efficiently deal with youth, co-workers, managers and the general public.

Understanding of good health.

Knowledge of the Department and center policies and treatments.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written guidelines in a prompt way.

Capability to identify the appropriate level of force.

Ability to observe modifications in youth’s habits.

Ability to supply useful feedback to remedy behavior.

Knowledge of great housekeeping jobs relative to maintaining the sanitary conditions of the center.

SPECIAL NOTES:

All prospective prospects will go through a sex offender check, criminal background checks, (state, regional and national) and pre-employment drug screening for direct care positions.

DJJ takes part in E-Verify (Work Eligibility).

When recognized on a position description, a legitimate driver’s license is needed. If initially employed with an out-of-state license, the Florida citizen must obtain a legitimate Florida state driver’s license within 30 days of hire. Licenses suspended or withdrawed for any factor, work permits (Company purpose/Employment/education only certifies) and some kinds of restricted licenses are not acceptable. Licenses that have Restorative Lenses Restriction are appropriate, provided the driver wears restorative lenses while running the vehicle.

Positions that consist of the transport of youth while carrying out any work or work-related functions on behalf of DJJ, need: (1) a legitimate chauffeur’s license; and (2) a three-year acceptable driving record as defined in FDJJ Policy 1920.

Successful candidate should be certified in accordance with State of Florida Department of Juvenile Justice direct care training policy, or obtain such accreditation within 180 days of work.

For those candidates who are not currently in the state system as a direct care employee for DJJ at the time of application, the top-level prospect( s) after the interview stage will be needed to take and pass Ergometric’s EFFECT Assessment and Training Test in order to be considered for this direct-care job opportunity. This test will be utilized to measure the candidate’s general viability for working with Juvenile Justice involved youth. Test results will be used for a duration of 6 months after preliminary screening for candidates who reapply during that duration for another position for which screening is required.

Pursuant to Florida law, the Florida Administrative Code, and in accordance with relevant federal law and regulations, the general staffing of a center should remain in an accordance with the male and female ratio of the juvenile population. The decision to work with a male or female worker based upon an authentic occupational credentials does not constitute discrimination, disparate treatment and/or an infraction of civil liberties.

985.66 Florida Statute Requirement:

Be at least 19 years of age.

Be a high school graduate or its comparable as determined by the department.

Not have been convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor including perjury or false declaration, or have actually gotten an unethical discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person, who after September 30, 1999, pleads guilty or no lo contendere to or is condemned of any felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement is not qualified for work, regardless of suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication. Regardless of this subparagraph, anyone who plead no lo contendere to a misdemeanor including a false statement before October 1, 1999, and who has actually had such record of that plea sealed or expunged is not disqualified for work for that reason.

Abide by all arrangements of s. 985.644(1 ), relating to fingerprinting and background investigations and other screening requirements for personnel.

Perform and send to the department an affidavit-of-application kind, adopted by the department, vouching for his/her compliance with sub paragraphs 1-4. The affidavit needs to be executed under oath and constitutes a main declaration under s. 837.06 The affidavit should include noticeable language that the intentional false execution of the affidavit makes up a misdemeanor of the 2nd degree. The employing agency shall keep the affidavit.
