The retributive kind of a justice system is only efficient when punishment for criminal activities are across the board. If you murder someone, no matter who you are or how rich you are, it must always be the very same sentence. The flaw with the majority of retributive systems is that they can be paid off. For that reason, the punishment does not always match the criminal activity. Furthermore, retributive justice systems also sees higher rates of repeat offenders. Primarily because these people are secured far from society for extended amount of times with no access to the outside. Jails have their own social systems, and when long sentences end, it’s much harder for the transgressor to adjust back to typical society. It does not assist that within a retributive justice system, society likewise puts a stereotype on the lawbreakers being launched because there is no reason to think they have actually altered even with a long jail sentence.
