POSITION OVERVIEW
Sanctuary for Families looks for a Project Assistant to help lawyers in its Family Law Project at the NYC Family Justice Center, Brooklyn, in representing domestic violence survivors in household offense, custody/visitation, child/spousal assistance and matrimonial procedures. Other duties consist of helping with all elements of job administration, carrying out administrative jobs, such as information collection and arranging files, carrying out neighborhood outreach and education in Brooklyn, and teaming up with other companies to promote for systemic modification. The Project Assistant will work out of the NYC Family Justice Center, Brooklyn (BKFJC).
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists task lawyers in all elements of lawsuits assistance, consisting of preparing and modifying legal files, performing customer interviews, composing correspondence, collecting proof, keeping case tracking systems, asking for records, acquiring court records and filing and serving documents.
- Performs direct customer advocacy, consisting of performing customer interviews, and helping lawyers with case preparation.
- Conducts consumption to evaluate cases and figure out eligibility for legal help.
- Liaises with and refers customers to proper legal and social services within and beyond Sanctuary for Families and the BKFJC.
- Writes grants and prepares scholarship applications on behalf of customers to support their financial stability and to offer emergency situation monetary help.
- Provides administrative assistance for task lawyers, consisting of preserving customer database and customer files.
- Assists job lawyers in arranging trainings for personnel, interns, and volunteers
- Coordinates, arranges, and performs outreach to underserved neighborhoods.
- Performs any other department or agency-related tasks as directed by manager.
- Bachelor’s degree or considerable appropriate work experience needed.
- Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Bengali, Haitian Creole or another language spoken in considerable Brooklyn populations highly chosen.
- Excellent interaction abilities, both oral and composed.
- Strong organizational and administrative abilities.
- Proactive, effective, and extremely arranged self-starter who is versatile and able to manage numerous top priorities and jobs individually.
- Knowledgeable in legal systems & their effect on survivors of injury, immigrants, and indigent individuals.
- Understanding of and capability to deal with individuals of varied nationwide, ethnic, cultural, spiritual and socioeconomic backgrounds.
