The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) employs more than 1,900 members statewide – either at headquarters in Tallahassee or in one of seven regional operations centers (ROCs). Services are delivered by five key areas: Executive Direction and Business Support; Investigations and Forensic Science; Florida Capitol Police; Criminal Justice Information Services; and Criminal Justice Professionalism. for additional information about FDLE.

SENIOR DATA BASE ANALYST – #71001847

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in management information systems or in one of the computer sciences and four years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming; or

2. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and five years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming; or

3. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in management information systems or in one of the computer sciences and three years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming; or

4. A doctorate from an accredited college or university in management information systems or in one of the computer sciences and one year of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming; or

5. Six years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming and either (a) completion of a 720-classroom hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or accredited community college in an area of data processing (excluding data entry), or (b) 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college coursework from an accredited institution which includes four courses in computer science or management information systems.

6. Experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

7. Completion of a one-year program of study from a vocational/technical school in an area of data processing (excluding data entry) can substitute for one year of the required computer systems analysis and/or computer programming experience.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Management and administration of Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL database software and databases;
  • Installing, configuring, patching and maintaining Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL database software and databases;
  • Ensuring the availability, integrity and security of database data;
  • Providing database backup and recovery services;
  • Developing and maintaining utility programs, scripts and routines for management of database systems on Red Hat LINUX and Windows server systems;
  • Providing network support services for database-related network technologies and adapters such as TNS, ODBC, JDBC, OLEDB and .Net.
  • Collaborating with business experts to develop and document database infrastructure or design requirements;
  • Performing database design, data modeling and data administration;
  • Developing and documenting data standards;
  • Maintaining the enterprise data dictionary and model repository;
  • Utilizing data administration tools to construct data profiles, perform data analysis and provide data cleansing recommendations;
  • Providing support, diagnostic, troubleshooting and resolution of web-based and client server software applications in a distributed computer systems environment;
  • Project planning related to maintenance and lifecycle management for multiple distributed systems;
  • Administration and support for multiple statewide applications; and
  • Assisting in the establishment and enforcement of database administration policies, standards and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Oracle and MySQL data base management technologies in UNIX/LINUX operating system environment;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server in a Windows operating system environment;
  • Knowledge of Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL internals, data structures, and memory management;
  • Knowledge of Oracle network connectivity;
  • Knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL languages;
  • Knowledge of UNIX/LINUX operating system and commands;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Server operating system and commands;
  • Knowledge of computer programming, systems analysis and systems design principles and practices;
  • Skills in installing and maintaining Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL software and databases;
  • Skills in designing, developing, testing, documenting and implementing database backup and recovery procedures;
  • Skills in performing database backup and recovery processes for Oracle using RMAN;
  • Skills in performing database backup and recovery processes for Microsoft SQL Server;
  • Skills in configuring data base parameters for performance tuning;
  • Skills in developing, testing, documenting and implementing SQL, Oracle PL/SQL, UNIX/LINUX shell scripts and Windows operating system BAT or CMD shell scripts;
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills and problem solve;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Ability to create logical, well-written standards and procedures related to database design and database administration;
  • Ability to write, code, test, debug, and review computer programs and stored procedures;
  • Ability to process information logically and solve problems;
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate multiple concurrent projects and work assignments;
  • Ability to identify and define user requirements;
  • Ability to write technical data processing reports;

SPECIAL NOTE: Preference will be given to applicants with training and experience or certification in Oracle Database Administration.
