This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in the Office of Human Resources – Bureau of Staff Development in Tallahassee, Florida.

Salary Range: $45,500.26 – $52,000.00 Annually

SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent in this position is expected to become familiar in the department’s reentry initiatives; display leadership skills that demonstrate the department’s commitment to reentry efforts for offenders while maintaining a professional demeanor.

  • The incumbent in this position is responsible for supporting the Department’s professional development initiatives to maintain a workforce that meets both the agency’s mandatory training criteria and any associated certification or licensure standards required by an individual to perform the duties of the job he/she is assigned to. Duties include conducting needs analyses, job task analyses, designing (which includes – writing, formatting, and partnering with subject matter experts) and evaluating training programs. Duties also include traveling to various locations to insure that programs are implemented properly.
  • Serves as support for the Regional Training Coordinators, Staff Development Training Consultants, Training Sergeants and other field staff engaged in the day to day delivery of specialized, advanced, and general topic in-service training. This requires the incumbent to review lesson plans with qualified subject matter experts on a regular basis to ensure that the lesson plan content remains relative and provide access for instructors to continually gain new knowledge and improve their preparation and delivery skills.
  • Provides technical assistance to the Florida Corrections Academy – School 66 Director and Academy Coordinators in the field to ensure that all recruits receive training that meets the standards of the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission. This duty includes providing Agency support during Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) audits of the Academy’s programs.
  • Assists in monitoring and evaluating technology-based training programs and prepares reports regarding the use of such programs. Conducts onsite monitoring activities necessary for the evaluation of staff training programs.
  • Act as liaison with other Department of Corrections entities to provide assistance with training development and delivery and make recommendations on issues that impact the development or delivery of training within the department.
  • Assists in the development of plans, policies and procedures related to staff training, including New Employee Orientation and training for Contracted employees.
  • Conducting needs analyses, job task analyses, designing (which includes – writing, formatting, and partnering with subject matter experts) and evaluating training programs;
  • Conducts research, create lesson plans and curricula based on standards, policies, procedures and guidance from the subject matter experts.
  • Handles customer service inquiries and triaging duties from the staff development and training mailbox.
  • Assists in monitoring and evaluating technology-based training programs and prepares reports regarding the use of such programs.
  • Conducts onsite monitoring activities necessary for the evaluation of staff training programs.
  • Acts as liaison with other Department of Corrections entities to provide assistance with training development and delivery and make recommendations on issues that impact the development or delivery of training within the department.
  • Traveling to various locations to ensure that programs are implemented properly.
  • Assists in the development of plans, policies and procedures related to staff training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA’s):

Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following KSA’s:

  • Knowledge of the principles of effective design for Online Training (OLT) and Instructor Lead Training (ILT) projects;
  • Knowledge and experience with eLearning software such as Articulate, Captivate or Power Point to develop courseware;
  • Knowledge of graphic design principles;
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in course design and delivery;
  • Strong research skills with the ability to assess and interpret data;
  • Strong communication skills with effective interpersonal skills;
  • Skill and proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and Power Point;
  • Ability to conduct public presentations;
  • Ability to work independently and with others;
  • Ability to manage time and workload;
  • Ability to identify and solve problems;
  • Ability to communicate effectively;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preference will be given to those with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Preference will be given to those with two or more years of professional experience in staff development, training, teaching, research, program evaluations, and/or project management;
  • Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one year of experience;
  • Professional or non-professional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
