Under the general direction of a Deputy Reserve Coordinator the Deputy ensures adequate security at special events. The Deputy is available for response relating to unacceptable behaviors, relating to misconduct, potential felonies, misdemeanors, and ordinance offenses.
Examples of Duties
The following duties are considered normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.
- Serves as security assigned to a special event.
- Ensures the safety of the public at events.
- Responds to incidents at events and stabilizes inappropriate behaviors’. Required to refer all felony, misdemeanor, and ordinance investigations to the Sheriff’s Office for arrest and issuing citations.
- Ensures that contact with the public is professional and courteous.
- Provides emergency medical aid during the scheduled event.
- Ensures accurate preparation and timely submission of all incidents and investigations.
- Attend all required training and maintain technical equipment certifications.
- Exhibit acceptable skill levels in the operation and care of department vehicles and equipment.
- Exhibit an acceptable skill level in the use and care of firearms.
- Exhibit an acceptable level of mental and physical conditioning to meet the demand of potentially stressful, hazardous, and dangerous situations.
Typical Qualifications
Desirable Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of State Statutes, County Ordinances, general police operations, and patrol principles. Ability to use good judgment, make sound decisions and interact effectively with the public.
Training and Experience:
- Minimum 60 college credits with a preference for bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.
- Law enforcement certified officers must meet Agency Firearms, Defensive & Arrest Tactics and Emergency Vehicle Operations proficiency requirements on a continuing basis.
- Law Enforcement Standards Board Basic Law Enforcement Certification / Certifiable.
- Previous experience in law enforcement or a related field.
In evaluating candidates for this position, the county may consider a combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
Supplemental Information
Please note this is a position that is not benefit eligible and does not have set hours. This position cannot guarantee any specific number of hours worked per month or year.
