The Benton County District Attorney’s Office is seeking a Legal Assistant to join the team. This position performs administrative and legal support activities. Focus areas include evidence, discovery, grand jury and public record requests. This positions produces a high volume of work under short deadlines.
Essential Functions
Discovery
- Extensive use of case management system, office machines, and various software products to accomplish tasks and monitor case status.
- At the direction of others, obtain evidence including reports, media, certified copies and other items of evidentiary value which could involve driving to other locations.
- Ensure that all discoverable materials are provided to the appropriate parties in a timely manner and invoiced accordingly.
- Ensure accurate production of digital media, including redacting/blurring audio and video recordings, often under tight deadlines.
Grand Jury
- Prepare cases for Grand Jury, including maintaining the grand jury docket, preparing and filing court documents, subpoenaing witnesses and preparing subpoena duces tecum for Grand Jury cases using established templates.
- Facilitates recordation of grand jury proceedings including set up and break down of recording equipment, transfer of recordings into appropriate storage location, and discovery of recordings as appropriate.
Administrative Support Essential Duties:
- Assists the public in a professional manner and may route to appropriate party for assistance.
- Receipt and track discovery and diversion payments.
- Performs file management activities.
- Provides administrative support to assigned staff.
- Provides Notary services.
Public Records Requests
- Ensure that all Public Records requests are addressed appropriately and within the deadlines established by law and invoice accordingly.
Minimum Qualifications
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
- High School diploma or GED.
- 3 years of general office or administrative support experience required.
- Legal or criminal justice experience preferred.
Special Requirements:
- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Eligibility and be able to obtain LEDS cerification within 30 days of hire.
- Notary Public designation within the first 30 days of employment.
- Must pass a fingerprint based background investigation and comply with all Federal, State and Local laws.
- Strong attention to detail with a proven ability to meet tight deadlines preferred.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

This is a FLSA non-exempt position.

- Annual salary range of $34,570.28 – $41,486.76 Depending on qualifications and experience.

This position requires driving and may require use of a personal vehicle.
Hiring is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.
Positions in this class typically require reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, however, half of the office is only accessible by climbing a flight of stairs. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
