Job Purpose

SCDOR’s Call Center provides customer service, taxpayer education for basic tax questions by phone, and accurate processing of Failure-to-File correspondence for different tax types, while striving to implement innovative ideas that reduce call volume and Failure to Files, making SCDOR a more efficient agency.

Job Duties

  • Assist and educate customers with basic tax questions including individual income taxes, sales taxes, employer withholding taxes, and MyDORWAY taxes with system sign-up and account reset.
  • Contact will predominately be by telephone, but also through fax or other written communication.
  • Redirect calls to appropriate sections and/or individuals.
  • Review account information and contact the taxpayer or authorized individual to analyze and verify data.
  • Make relevant adjustments to account information.
  • Distribute section mail as assigned.
  • Learn and apply associated State tax laws and regulations, SCDOR internal policies and procedures, and learn to navigate SCDOR tax and other systems in order to assist internal customers and taxpayers with basic tax questions.
  • Update and/or review section procedures and make suggestions and/or recommendations for improving existing practices and processes.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

One of the following: A high school diploma or GED and four years of business related experience or

  • An associate’s degree or higher in a business related field and two years of business related experience
  • Examples of common business or related degrees include accounting, advertising, criminal justice, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, health care management hospitality management, human resources, information technology management, marketing, organizational leadership, public relations, taxation, etc.
  • Requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high volume of customer contacts daily.
  • Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in an inbound call center environment and/or customer service experience.
