Salary will based on the state teachers’ salary schedule plus a 10% supplement.

This position is assigned to C.A. Dillon Juvenile Detention Center , a secure facility with an overall mission to provide committed juveniles with a safe, secure environment that fosters healthy decision-making and personal responsibility.

This position will be responsible for providing instruction to students in a state-operated detention center. The teacher may be expected to provide instruction in multiple content areas. The facility’s capacity will be 36 students but is expected to expand in the future. Classes will have up to 12 students with diverse education backgrounds and needs. In addition to planning and implementing academic instruction, the teacher will be expected to be a critical part of the facility-wide team, collaborating with direct-care staff and professionals from other disciplines, as well as communicating with community-based schools and outside agencies.

Work Schedule: M-F 7: 30am – 4: 00pm.

A Criminal Background Check and related testing will be conducted.

The salary grade for this position is ED20. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Candidates MUST document proficiency with Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA’s) AND Education and Experience Requirements in the application. Failure to provide all educational information, including dates of attendance, will result in an automatic disqualification.

  • Experience in providing engaging and personalized classroom instruction aligned with state standards;
  • Experience in facilitating instruction for multiple content areas for diverse learners;
  • Experience in effectively implementing services provided through a student’s IEP;
  • Experience in creating a safe environment for students, utilizing behavioral management techniques;
  • Experience in collaborating and communicating with professionals from other disciplines to ensure effective services are provided to students in a safe environment;
  • Knowledge and comprehension of current trends and issues in Juvenile Justice and education of youth in confinement;
  • Knowledge of effective educational practices for students at risk for failure and students with learning challenges.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or above in Teaching Area with or eligible to receive a license level of one of the following: A, M, S, D. Must be Highly Qualified for EC, or Core Area.
