What you will be doing!

The purpose of this position is to investigate individual cases of suspected fraud; initiate and implement administrative actions where facts warrant such actions; write misrepresentation and overpayment decisions; write regular adjudication decisions; advise other agency personnel to develop methods and procedures to detect and deter fraud; assist in coordination of activities involving investigation and resolution of fraudulent activities detected within the unemployment insurance program; involvement in other programs, or jurisdictions as determined necessary by the investigator.

In this role you will:

  • Conducts fact finding according to the rules of evidence.
  • Legally obtains, verifies, interprets and analyzes, when required, any documentation such as payroll and personnel records, other business records or such public records as are required to prove or disprove the matter under investigation.
  • Determines existence of potential violations of statutes affecting other agencies and makes any resulting referral to an agency affected by such violation.
  • Adjudicates issues relevant to a fraudulent action perpetrated against the Employment Department and determines when the evidence is sufficient to conclude the case.
  • Decides denial of benefits, existence and calculation of overpayment and assessment of administrative penalties by application of appropriate laws, rules and policies.
  • Frequently applies statutes covering areas not in the dominion of Unemployment Insurance Law to obtain a complete investigation picture upon which to make the administrative decision.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

two years of recent (within the last five years) investigative experience which included gathering facts, collecting evidence, examining records, and conducting interviews to verify or disprove claims of suspected law violations.

College-level courses in law enforcement, criminal justice, law, accounting, auditing, or a closely-related field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to one year of the required experience
