Objectives

The Delaware County Juvenile Court is seeking to hire a 35-hour per week School Liaison. This position will intervene with students who are at-risk for truancy and/or school unruly charges. The position seeks to improve attendance and behavioral issues with the goal of preventing court filings.

Job Standards

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, education, criminal justice or similar field plus four (2) years of working with families and/or at-risk youth;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques;
  • Knowledge of due process;
  • Knowledge of school district guidelines for truancy and discipline;
  • Knowledge of Ohio Revised Code and School Law;
  • Knowledge of interviewing and assessment techniques;
  • Knowledge of and ability to use assertiveness and advocacy skills, to aggressively pursue the “best” solution for youths/families; and
  • Must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.

Essential Functions

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Attends weekly school meetings with school administration to identify student at-risk for truancy and conducts diversion conferences and formal arraignments related to school charges;
  • Conducts interventions with at-risk students as identified by schools;
  • Coordinate and attend school mediations to establish absence intervention plans;
  • Monitor school attendance before and after mediation;
  • Participates in the development of comprehensive and cohesive case plans with court and other agencies, e.g. the school, the court, mental health and children services;;
  • Prepares truancy/unruly complaints for school administration signature;
  • Provides appropriate school personnel with information pertinent to youth’s general education program;
  • Conducts Pre-Sentence Investigations on select youth; and
  • Makes recommendations to the bench for hearings.
