Description

The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) provides a wide range of human services designed to promote self-sufficiency, safety, and well-being for all Georgians. The department is one of the largest agencies in state government with an annual budget of $1.8 billion and nearly 9,000 employees. DHS is comprised of three Divisions: The Division of Aging Services, the Division of Child Support Services, and the Division of Family and Children Services and 14 Administrative Support Offices.

The Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS), a division of the Georgia Department of Human Services, investigates reports of child abuse; finds foster and adoptive homes for abused and neglected children; issues SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF to low-income families; helps out-of-work parents get back on their feet; and provides numerous support services and innovative programs to help families in need.

The Division of Family & Children Services, Office of Family Independence (OFI) is seeking candidates for the position of Administrative Support 3 to serve as County Receptionist. This position will report to an OFI Supervisor and will be located at the DFCS office in Glynn County, Georgia.

Job Description

Pay Grade: E

Under broad supervision, performs a variety of general secretarial, clerical, and administrative support functions/processes or a few specialized or essential clerical functions in support of a unit or office and related personnel. May enter data and/or process documents and records. The work includes operating standard office equipment.

Roles and Responsibilities

Under limited supervision, the Administrative Support 3:

  • Receives and routes telephone communications as required for the county office.
  • Provides/coordinates services to clients, families and partners that call the local office.
  • Uses Microsoft Office Suite and other standard software applications typically used in a corporate office environment to perform daily work assignments.
  • Maintains confidential records.
  • Performs other professional responsibilities as assigned.

  • Ability to use customer service skills for active listening and good judgement.
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED AND Four (4) years of progressively complex office or administrative experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, demonstrate some or all of the following skills/experience.

  • Four (4) years of administrative support experience which involved customer contact and interaction.
  • Strong proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and standard software application typically used in a corporate environment.

The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered. DHS will contact educational institutions to verify degree, diploma, licensure, etc.
