Youth & Family Services Specialist (Grant Funded)

Job Duties

Interviews applicants to determine needs and eligibility for assistance. Makes home visits as necessary. Determines the nature and extent of the applicant’s needs. Makes determinations of each client’s eligibility for tribal and other social services programs. Promotes clients independence by educating clients in modifying attitudes and patterns of behavior. Maintains communication with tribal, state, and county agencies to coordinate, refer, and avoid duplication of services. Maintains required records and provides reports as assigned. Promotes violence prevention awareness through community outreach and individual contacts. Provides violence prevention education in residential, community, and home settings. Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university; or six years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer a degree in Social Work, Education, Psychology, Family & Consumer Sciences, Criminal Justice, or related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

At least six months experience in a related field.

COMPUTER SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software, Internet software, and Word Processing software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid driver’s license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Primary duties is to be present in the community, visit community agencies and events, and to transport clients.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have knowledge of community outreach principals, violence prevention, and education awareness concepts.

Must be willing to work with adolescents and be able to effetively speak to the public

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care. Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, distance vision and the ability to correct/adjust focus.

Work hours will be 8: 00 AM to 5: 00 PM with occasional hours in evenings and weekends for extended community outreach events.

Position is GRANT FUNDED and employment is contingent upon funding availability.

Term of Grant: 10/01/2019 – 09/30/2021
