PARKING & SECURITY ATTENDANT (SR-09)

Patrols, and enforces applicable ordinances, rules and regulations in government parking areas; responds to disturbances and maintains order in city offices, buildings and surrounding areas; participates in motor pool activities; and performs other related duties as required.At time of application, you must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of Facility Maintenance, Public Building and Electrical Maintenance Division. The positions require wearing a uniform and a badge. Work location is the Civic Center Parking Structure; the position is also assigned to service the Joint Traffic Management Center. List may also be used to fill future vacancies in this and/or other departments.

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

One year of work experience involving public contact.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:

1. AT TIME OF APPLICATION: Valid registration as a Guard with the State of Hawaii Board of Private Detectives and Guards (i.e., possession of a valid State of Hawaii Guard license).

The State of Hawaii does not have reciprocity with any other state. You must possess a valid State of Hawaii Guard license at the time of application in order to qualify. For information about the State of Hawaii Guard licensing requirements, please refer to .

Verification Requirement: You must submit evidence of your State of Hawaii Guard license within 7 days of filing this application. Please attach an electronic copy of your State of Hawaii Guard license to your application. Or mail a photocopy of your Guard license to the following address: Department of Human Resources, 650 South King Street, 10th Floor, Honolulu, HI 96813. Copies will not be returned.

You must also provide your valid State of Hawaii Guard License ID number and Legal License Name (i.e., your name as it appears on your Guard license) in the “Supplemental Questions” section of your application form.

2. PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT: Possession of a valid driver’s license (automobile/Type 3).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Possession of a special police commission prior to completion of probation. During the probationary period, selectees shall be fingerprinted, photographed, and subject to a background investigation by the Honolulu Police Department.

The following are some of the requirements for a special police commission:

1. U.S. Citizen;

2. 21 years of age or older;

3. Any person convicted of a felony, or a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, or of any criminal assault shall not be eligible for a special police commission.TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE EVALUATION:

In addition to meeting the above minimum qualifications, your application will be further evaluated. Your score will be based on the quality, quantity, and/or recency of your training and experience.

EMPLOYMENT SUITABILITY:

To determine the selectee’s employment suitability for this position, the Department of Human Resources will review criminal convictions, dismissals from employment, and separations from military service under other than honorable convictions.

FINGERPRINTING REQUIREMENT:

This position will be assigned to service the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC). Any employee with unescorted access to secured areas and equipment within the JTMC requires a fingerprint-based criminal history record check. Therefore, the selectee will be required to be fingerprinted as part of their employment suitability review. The Department of Human Resources will review fingerprint-based state and national criminal history record information from the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
